In this get-up-and-move activity, students sort themselves by fragment (dependent clause) or sentence (independent clause). They then create varied sentences by pairing up, dependent clause with independent clause, and making a new sentence. Show students how to add a comma to dependent clauses that begin sentences.
After this activity, my students were better able to create more complex sentences as well as eliminate fragments. I only had to remind them of the "activity we did with the cards!"
