Give your kids a taste of olde worlde England...
Here's a book (fantasy, castles, English private school, etc) I wrote and illustrated originally for my son, to make him aware of the history of his local city in the UK. Contains reading and writing activities at the end.
'The Heath of the Graves' synopsis as follows:
“(The people of Norwich) would wander the castle shopping mall on a Saturday afternoon, blind to the presence of a lost king lying dormant beneath Mousehold Heath, the crumbling arches of his ancient burial vault packed with caskets of gold. In time they would forget existence of the hidden tunnels, the secret spaces of the Norman cathedral and the shadows of the forgotten spirits who wander the present in their search for the past.”
The past is alive and history haunts us. ‘The Heath of the Graves’ tells the story of Kett’s Rebellion, an old local tale whispered along the ancient country lanes of rural Norfolk. And yet the story has not finished. Echoes and patterns ripple through the past and the present. Fourteen-year-old Jason Greene starts a new school only to find himself immersed in a world of local legends, lost kings and forgotten ritual sacrifices. It is here that he and his new friends encounter the forces of darkness. In a race against time, Jason and Rowan the gypsy must stop the Headmaster and the members of his secret society in their quest to find and resurrect the Lost King for their own ends.
