This HyperDoc book project is designed to be used with a computer or tablet (perfect for Chromebooks and iPads), while reading the novel, Indian in the Cupboard. I created it because it was a frequent request of my buyers and a kid favorite! It includes links to more than 20 sites with articles, videos, and activities related to the novel in order to help deepen comprehension and better understand the historical background.
The questions and activities included are designed to spark critical thinking and are in line with common core. As always, I’ve taken care to include as many subjects areas as possible because I know the challenges of covering it all in our limited amount of time. There are links to “extras” to keep early finishers engaged and I took care to balance reading with videos to provide diverse media and to not overwhelm students with too much text.
Native Americans (Iroquois homes/role of women in society
Cowboys and the age of the cattle drive
French and Indian War
World War I trench warfare
The invention of TV
Discovery of penicillin
Supporting and protecting your friends
This project can be used with your whole class if you have one-to-one devices, with small groups at a computer center, or individually. You can assign all of it or part. This is ideal for students who read at different rates and makes it easy for students to keep up when absent.
