What educators are saying

Did not teach about Indigenous Peoples Day this year, but this resource would have come in great handy. Perfect for a touchy subject that is difficult to teach! Thanks!
Good resource and support to our learning about colonization and what the Spaindards did to the Carribean.

Description

A resource for you to use if you wish to present a different point of view about Columbus’ journey and the effect it had on the Native Americans who already lived on the islands he explored in the Caribbean.

I know when I was in school, no one even mentioned the fact that a whole group of people were there before Columbus “discovered” “America.” As I’ve done more research, it became clear that there is more to the story of Columbus than we were taught.

I’ve tried to be delicate about the facts, keeping in mind the age of the children we teach. Please preview the lesson and see if you feel it is appropriate for your class.

In the download, you will get:

*PPT of the four page story for whole class presentation

*black and white student readers for individual children

*full page color version of the whole class presentation

*true/false text-dependent analysis worksheet

*Christopher Columbus - Hero or Villain? writing response

*vocabulary and definition cards

Please note this is also included in my Christopher Columbus bundle resource.
