Description

This Indigenous Peoples of Canada unit is perfect for a Canadian History unit or Canadian Indigenous Peoples unit. It includes Indigenous Peoples of Canada reading passages, comprehensions questions, and foldable mini books. This unit focuses of the Inuit of the Arctic, the Iroquois of the Eastern Woodlands, the People of the Plains, the People of the Plateau, and the People of the North West Coast.

Very little teacher prep is necessary to teach this unit - simply print and teach! Detailed answer keys and vocabulary words are also included.

An informational reading passage and matching comprehension question graphic organizer is included for each Indigenous group. This is a great way to have students pull out key information and text evidence from informational text. Several pages of key unit vocabulary sheets are also included.

A final informational mini flip book research project is also included. Students use the information they have gathered throughout the unit to create a mini informational flip book on each Indigenous group. Full instructions and templates are included.

This package can be used as is, or as part of an Interactive Notebook. Interactive Notebooks are powerful tools to enable students to be creative, independent thinkers and writers. Interactive Notebooks allow students to express their ideas in unique ways, and process information presented in class. Completed Interactive Notebooks become valuable study tools for students to reflect back on, and are great as a record of student progress over time.

If you happen to be a Canadian teacher using the Crossroads: A Meeting of Nations textbook, this unit works great with the “Native Peoples of Canada” chapter!
