This is an activity handout that your students can complete while they watch a clip on YouTube that features the events of the Blue Quills School protest and highlights in particular the experiences of Stanley Red Crow and the fight to allow Indigenous families to educate their children in Indigenous culture, language and history.
The link to the clip from the official YouTube channel is included on the worksheet. Students can watch independently and complete the worksheet or it can be used for whole class viewing.
Now updated to include an ANSWER KEY!
This was created for a grade 10 Canadian History (CHC2D) using the Ontario Curriculum, but it is appropriate for any grades 7-10 class that is learning about the growth of Indigenous rights in Canada.
I've recently updated this file, so I've included both the older version and the newer version. You choose the one you prefer!
The video associated with this activity contains information about the abuses suffered by First Nations peoples in residential schools. Please preview the video clip here
as the images and information may be difficult for younger grades to understand.
