Do you get frustrated with the lack of parent participation in traditional parent/teacher conferences? Do you need help tracking student-driven goals for your professional evaluations?
I did - so I created my own conference form and for about two weeks spent ten minutes a class period conferencing with students about their 9 weeks performance.
I presented the topics to the students ahead of time, each student wrote written responses to things like: What are two things in school in which you perform well? What are two things that could use improvement? What are your goals in life and two things you could do to help impact those goals now?
I've found that it is much more productive to meet individually with each student - and they like having a chance to talk one-on-one about their development and goals! Then, if parents do come to the parent/teacher conferences, I have specific talking points and can show them what their children are thinking.
