The result of six years of development with nearly five hundred students, the Individual Reading Assignment is not the same old book project. The project teaches students to understand a fiction or non-fiction book of their choice on a variety of levels from simple reflection to rigorous analysis. But, most importantly, the project encourages these readers to make this work their own by selecting a book none of their class mates are reading.
The first semester project packages includes a core document of over 85 pages with detailed lesson plans, copy-ready assignment handouts, and completed student examples of writing, a portfolio, and a visual presentation in both Smart Notebook and PowerPoint formats. That project is ready for teaching and requires no outside development.
This second semester package contains over thirty pages of lesson plans, copy-ready handouts, and completed student examples for the second semester changes to the project. These changes are not wholesale. To run the second semester, the first semester project package is still required as a foundation.
