Used during a literature circle unit, while students were reading modern dystopian novels in conjunction with Fahrenheit 451. Editable document so that you may tweak it as necessary!
Students are required to independently read the novel outside of class, while completing the journal. It contains six short activities: defining a dystopian society, tracking character development, logging important quotes and passages, a choice activity in perspective that requires taking on the role of a character, a choice activity in visualization of the society, and an activity that connects a theme from the novel to the "real world." Also included are two prompts for a final essay, focusing on the themes of fear and loss of individualism.
