Do your students struggle to clearly explain questions on the books they are reading independently, in a reading workshop, or in literature circles? If so, use the 103 reading responses in this packet not only to teach them how to explain their thoughts, but also to support their responses with examples from the text and to reinforce concepts you have taught in class.
These responses are arranged in groups for questions that can be used before reading a text, while reading a text, and after the text is finished. Each page covers one concept which makes it easy for you to copy the response you want students to focus on for the day. Depending on the length of the response, there are 1-4 of the same responses per page.
Each blank on a response students have to complete includes a prompt beneath the blank that tells the students what they need to write in the blank. The prompt allows them to complete the response with minimal difficulty.
I use these responses in a reading workshop but they could also easily be used for discussions on books students are reading during DEAR time or to help students express themselves in literature circles or during guided reading. I've found them to be a great way to help students convey their thoughts and also to help them focus on important reading and language skills.
A Table of Contents is included to help you locate the response you want quickly.
