Have students choose an area of math that they struggled in this year. I have my students take the end of year math assessment that goes along with our curriculum. After grading the end of year assessment, students look at the type of problems they missed.
Conference with students about their strengths and weaknesses after grading to identify their goal for the end of the year project. The project is broken up into 3 parts: Practice - students will practice their math goal by completing different tasks either online or printed. Create - 3 different projects that show students understanding of their math goal. Teach - a lesson plan outline for students to use in order to prepare to teach the class about their standard.
What is included:
Goals – Use standards based goal selection sheet to determine areas that students will complete their project on. Student activity choice board with spaces to add activities that may better fit your classes needs.
Practice – Have students use the reflection sheet before and after working on mastering their goal. Reflection sheets provide a self assessment for students and allow teachers to check off students completion of this part of their project.
Create – Use the following templates to help students complete, task cards, interactive journals or math song projects. Students can use the check list as a guide to complete the project. One check list for each project idea (3).
Teach –Outline of a lesson plan is provided to help students create their lesson using different presentation software. Use the provided check list and rubric to help students create a lesson to show their understanding of their math goal.
