The following is a Debate Activity which comes a step by step lesson plan as well as three separate activities including the debate. First is a set of 8 questions regarding Big Business and Labor during Industrialization which will allow for students to gain a base of knowledge. Second is a Flow Chart (graphic organizer) which instructs students to organize their thoughts and answers regarding Big Business and Labor and visual show students how competing beliefs and desires will lead to Labor Conflict (unions, strikes, boycotts, pickets, etc.). Third is a Debate Form to be used for students to record their arguments and allow for the teacher to grade and/or award points to determine a winning side. I just used this the other day (9/20) and the students were engaged the whole class period and upon their exit surveys gave great feedback regarding how much they learned. Enjoy!!!
