Description

Industrial Revolution Determining Your Horsepower Project

This fun activity has your students getting up out of their seats and using steps to determine each student's horsepower! Students work together in groups of 2 or 3 to time each other on the steps, then use a simple equation to find out what their horsepower would be.

The introduction explains how James Watt coined the term horsepower as a marketing tool for his steam engine during the Industrial Revolution. Following the activity, students answer a set of questions on their experience and then create a newspaper advertisement for James Watt's steam engine.

This is a very fun activity and a great way to get your class up and active!

This download includes both printable and Google Docs versions of the activity! If you're in a paperless classroom or just want to integrate more digital resources, you can use the provided link to bring this resource into Google Classroom!
