In the fast paced and always changing climate of the 21st century technology students understand the importance of invention, but it is sometimes hard for them to picture the beginning of it all. In order to understand what the Industrial Revolution accomplished in the late 1800's to the early 1900's students must research first hand the innovation and creativity that took place. This lesson is designed as a mini project for students to explore the significance of the inventions and technological change in the Industrial Revolution. Individually or in small groups students rank inventions from a 3 page list of innovations from the late 19th and early 20th century. While exploring the importance of the inventions to the Industrial Revolution students are to inquire what the significance of the inventions brought to society. By allowing students choice it provides opportunities for debate and extension of the lesson beyond the basic lecture, reading, or worksheet over the topic of the Industrial Revolution.
