Bundle Description

INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION WORKSHEETS: These word scramble puzzles are a great way for students to have fun while learning about the Industrial Revolution and increasing their reading comprehension. Quotes by Rockefeller, Carnegie, Tesla, Bell and Edison are covered.

How it Works

Words from meaningful quotes by Industrial Revolution industrialists and inventors are jumbled up --- they look like torn pieces of paper.

Your students are challenged to re-arrange the words into the original quotation. There's a grid they can fill out, so no other paper is needed and it helps keep students' eyes on the same worksheet page as the word scramble.

On the answer page for each puzzle, there's interesting facts about these Industrial Revolution figures so you can continue to teach!

Not Just a Grid Activity, but Also an Imaginative Backstory

Middle school kids still like a story, so we have created these puzzles with a story. It will help them remember the quotes as well!

Here's backstory: The evil Dr. Malicious is trying to erase these inventors and industrialists from history by mangling some of their quotations. Your students have to put those quotes back together in order to stop her!

Example Quote

"Successful ideas are the result of slow growth. Ideas do not reach perfection in a day, no matter how much study is put upon them." - Alexander Graham Bell

This is just one of the quotation word puzzles your students will be challenged with!

Ways to Use

You can use these as an introduction to your lesson plan on the Industrial Revolution, as a review before a test, or simply as bell ringer activities for your early finishers.

Print each one out as a worksheet for individual students or small groups.

Other Formats

Slide Version: We also produce a color slide version so you can project it onto a whiteboard and let the whole class solve it together with one student representative writing on the board. Often, different students will be able to fit together different pieces of the quotation, making this a bonding teamwork activity for the entire class!

Coming up! Activity Version: Print out the scrambled torn pieces of "paper" in color, laminate them and use the included grid board with a motivational quote as a re-useable activity.
