Students will learn about the logging industry in the Upper Midwest during the early 1900s. The Logging and Logging Camp Webquest uses a great website created by the Minnesota Historical Society. The website allows students to explore a logging camp from the early 1900s that would have been common throughout the Upper Midwest in the early 1900s. Check out the website at:
The webquest contains 32 questions and is a great way for students to learn more about the following topics:
• Industrialization in the early 1900s
• Logging camps
• Transportation of logs
• Logging and logging tools
• Daily life of loggers and the dangers of the logging industry
An answer sheet is included for the teacher. The webquest takes most students 20 to 40 minutes to complete depending on the age of your students. Feel free to modify this activity if needed to fit the needs of your students. I highly suggest this webquest for students in grades 5-12.
