I use this activity as a fun little way to introduce my students to the Gilded Age. I created a handout that is set up like a Jeopardy Board. The categories included are: Important Leaders, Getting Organized (about Labor Unions), Forms of Business, and Regulation by Law. Each category has questions that are worth different point values. For example, the questions at the top are worth 5 points, so students would get 5 points for each question they answer correctly in that box. Total there are 680 points available.
I let my students do a scavenger hunt to find the answers to the questions. You can take your students to a computer lab, use chrome books, or allow them to use BYOD. I give all the students a participation grade, but I decide the winners by adding up the amount of points each team got. I give the winning teams a little bit of extra credit. Giving extra credit seems to really motivate the students. I give the winning team 10 points on their lowest minor grade and whoever comes in 2nd gets 8 points, 3rd gets 6 points, 4th gets 4 points and the team finishing in 5th gets 2 points.
This could also just be done as a web quest.
