This product was created to help students understand the meaning of less than, less than or equal to, greater than, and greater than or equal to in real-world situations. The product includes a sheet of 15 real-life scenarios written as "cards" that the students can cut out along with the answers as "cards" in random order, a hints page (if necessary), a tree map, and an answer key.
One way to use this product is by giving individuals or pairs of students the scenario/answer card sheet, having the students cut the cards apart, then having the students match the inequalities and paste them to the tree map.
There are other ways this product may be used. The answer cards could be omitted if you want a greater challenge. The tree map could be omitted and the students could just match the cards with the answers. Furthermore, the students could draw their own tree map rather than using the one provided. And, finally, the activity could be done without cutting and pasting, but just by solving and writing the scenarios and answers on a tree map.
This product could be used as part of a math centers activity.
