This sorting activity works to help students match the inequality statement such as 3 < x with the number line, coordinate plane, and verbal representations of inequalities.
I use this activity as a review for my Algebra 1 students and use it for extra practice outside of class if they are having difficulty, however it could be used as a teaching instrument in the middle school grades.
Sorting is a nice low risk activity to get students interacting with the material. If they make a mistake, they simply move the card and there is no record of their error. I find that I can get even my most hesitant math learner to give it a try with the right partner!
