Inference Turn-Around Game is an engaging way to take Inference to a deeper level for students. Make your inference lessons more exciting by having your students write an “inference” paragraph. It’s a turn-around! Instead of having your students find clues that lead to an inference by answering multiple-choice questions, your students get to create the inference description. It’s a game!
Example: Tell the class you’re giving them the sentence, “The children are very hot.” They have to give clues in a description that tells the reader that the children are hot without using the word that is underlined and without using synonyms for the underlined word. The word, hot, is underlined. Students must create a description of the hot children without using the word, hot, and without using synonyms for the word, hot.
Example inference description for "The children are very hot": The children downed water. It wasn’t enough. Sweat was pouring off the children’s foreheads. Each one was trying to find some salvation in the shade of trees on campus. Many children folded paper into paper fans to wave across their faces.
