John Mortonson's Funeral Inference Passage
Get students close reading and making inferences with a fun short story. Students will read a 2-pg very short story "John Mortonson's Funeral" by Ambrose Bierce, stopping at the stop signs to answer inference and evidence-based questions. Questions ask students to make inferences, support inferences with evidence, make predictions, and infer the meaning of vocabulary words using context clues.
Use for independent practice, extra practice, homework, remediation, stations, or subwork. Answer key included. Students love the horrifying twist at the end. Great for Halloween as well!
