Explicitly teach and practice inference with this no prep, differentiated resource! Introductory activities, hands-on tasks, whole-class game, blank templates and more!
As students begin to read complex texts, inferring with accuracy becomes an increasingly important part of comprehension. In my work with students, I have found inference to be one of the more difficult reading skills to master. Children who are more engaged and avid readers may do this naturally as they move up in reading levels, however many struggle with this concept and require explicit and concrete practice targeted at developing this crucial skill. With practice and guidance, it is hoped that our readers will outgrow the need for explicit strategies and apply inferring skills automatically! Within this resource you will find no-prep, ready to print activities to support the explicit teaching of inference.
This resource is divided into four sections, and each section contains ready-to-print, no prep materials:
♦ Introductory Activities: Introduce your students to inference with these simple examples and activities. A poster is included.
♦ Inference Card Game: A game that can be played with the whole class to practice inferring!
♦ Differentiated Task Cards: Task cards to support inference practice. Differentiated into three levels, including picture prompts.
♦ Blank Templates: Templates that support explicit identification of inferring when reading any text.
