This activity includes a one page handout/anchor chart that can be used to teach how to make inferences using text evidence/clues and schema.
It is followed by 40 task cards. Each of the cards (4 to a page) have a short description of a person, place, event or situation. The students must use schema and text evidence to make an inference about who or what is being described. 1 - 24 of the cards are not multiple choice. 24 - 40 are multiple choice. You can mix these up, use all of them, use just the ones with open ended response, or use just the multiple choice based on the level of learners in your classroom. This could be a whole-class activity with mix-freeze-pair, or a great center or early finisher activity as well. For best results, print the cards on card stock and laminate for lasting durability.
There is also a writing activity outlined on the last page for students to write about a person, place and/or event without using key words or phrases. The students must use clues to help the reader infer about who or what is being described. This helps students with showing not telling.
