Support students in developing their inference skills through this active reading lesson.

Students will be engaged with this hands on reading lesson, using the credit card statements of a character to make meaning of the life he has lead. They must closely read the statements, paying attention to details and researching when necessarily to make meaning. Students will work on their inference and characterization skills while using the text to support their conclusions.

This lesson is appropriate for students at all ability levels as it can be scaffolded by the teacher to meet the needs of the students. It allows for practice of the above listed skills in a way that will maintain the attention of even your most reluctant and struggling readers.

This package includes the following:
-Thirteen credit card statements that span the life of a man from college into adulthood. The statements tell the reader about his life and the life of his family with some parts of the statements as blanks to allow for inferences.
-A possible lesson plan and procedure for implementing the use of the statements
