Each of the task cards contains a short fiction text with clues. Students use those clues to make inferences about character traits, settings, and feelings and emotions.

    Making Inference about Emotion

    Use this low prep activity to help your students improve their inferencing skills while also building compassion and empathy for others. These 20 task cards contain short fiction texts with clues about how a character is feeling. Students must use those clues to make inferences about the character's emotion.

    This is a great introduction to inferencing, and it also provides opportunities for classroom discussion about how to deal with different feelings and emotions.

    Making Inferences About Setting

    Help students practice making inferences while also review setting with these low prep 20 task cards. Students read short passages that gives clues about the setting. To complete the task cards, students must use the clues to make inferences, and then explain their thinking.

    The student recording sheets are differentiated to help make your prep easier. One of the student recording sheets contains a word bank to help scaffold students, while the other one does not.

    Use these task cards to review inferencing or review setting with your 2nd grade or 3rd grade students, or for test prep.

    Making Inferences about Character Traits

    These character traits task cards are a fun way for students to practice the vocabulary associated with character traits. Each task card contains a short reading passage. Students must read the task card, and then use the clues to make an inference about a character's traits. Students must give text evidence to defend their answer on their answer sheet.
