I used this great worksheet as an application activity for Grade 3/4s.
HOW TO USE:
For the blank photo box, I printed several real photos showing various events (i.e., soccer game goal celebration, child crying, angry people, etc.) and glued the photos to the blank box. Each student receives his or her own worksheet and photo.
The first table allows the students to brainstorm a few ideas as to what is occurring in the photo. The final box allows them to write their final inference.
I introduced the skill of inferring by playing several small inference games with the whole class. I also brought in a "mystery bag" and pulled out several items so the students could infer who the bag belonged to. Very fun!
** They absolutely loved this activity and they loved sharing their photo/inferences with their peers! **
