This product is intended to get students excited (as much as possible) about grammar -- specifically, infinitives and infinitive phrases. I find that, in my own classroom, when I pair classic picture books with any high school English lesson, the students enjoy the content more. I think it's because it transports them back in time to when school used to be fun. For many students, high school English is much more work than fun due to the rigor, but associating grammar with children's literature lightens their load and their mood.
I highly encourage you to read the story The Day the Crayons Quit to your students either before you complete this assignment or during. The document is set up so that it uses lines from the book as mentor sentences to assist students in locating and writing infinitives and, if your students are ready for the challenge, infinitive phrases. As you read, you can really emphasize the infinitives to help students locate them in the text.
Students will identify infinitives, create their own, and learn how to punctuate them in sentences.
