My students have really been into biographies lately! I created these anchor charts and writing activities as a way to guide their informational writing, while learning about important people in history. Perfect for teaching students during Black History Month!
This product includes an anchor chart and writing pages for each of these 5 influential people in African American history:
*Booker T. Washington
Here's How it Works:
I asked my students to brainstorm what they already knew about the person we were about to research. They used the recording sheet to jot down their knowledge. I recorded their knowledge on the anchor chart. I then read an informational text about the person. While I was reading, the students wrote down information on the recording sheet that was new to them. After reading the text, students shared their knowledge and I recorded it on the anchor chart. We then came up with more questions that the children had about the person and wrote them down on the anchor chart. The students then used the information from the book to write down all that they knew about him on the All About… writing page. While the students were doing their writing, I did more research on the internet about the lingering questions, to see if I could answer any of them!
The anchor charts are super easy to make! I put it together, laminated it and then used a dry erase marker to write down information on it. Low prep and easy to use from year to year! These charts have really engaged my students and have anchored their learning!
Other interactive anchor charts are available in my TPT store!
