This outline helps keeps kids organized as you teach the basics of gathering information, organizing information, and writing a simple informational report. Students will begin by exploring possible topics and narrowing down what they wish to write about. Students will then research their topic and record their resource to help instill the idea of providing those who need the credit the credit they deserve! As students then organize important dates, they will continue by writing their rough draft. Editing occurs through self-monitoring and peer editing and finally the publishing process.
Having used this template many years, I have seen first hand how it can keep students focused on the next step at hand while also assisting students who struggle with maintaining organization the opportunity to keep everything in one place. Through the use of technology, consider having students write their rough and final drafts in Google Docs or another electronic resource!
