This student guide is one of our many units of study that has everything you'll need to engage your students as they learn how to collaborate. The focus is on informational structure, use of domain specific words and practicing the art of persuasion through creating an infomercial.
Our students are so engaged in this project that behavior issues in our classrooms become non-existent.
This Unit Teaches:
Collaboration: We use this 10-12 day unit to get our kids to truly learn how to become part of a collaborative group where all students and their ideas are essential to create the end-product....an infomercial!
Structure: The focus on structure is essential for all students to replicate and identify informational structures. This particular unit focuses on the problem/solution structure.
Domain-Specific Language: Students also learn what domain-specific words are and how to use them through analysis and application, pushing students to use powerful, purposeful and professional vocabulary.
Persuasion: The art of persuasion is just that: an art. Students learn how to persuade through the problem/solution structure and by using electronic mentors.
Script Writing: Student groups will create a script centered around dialogue + action + inner thinking.
Responsibility to a Group: A bonus! Since students will be acting out a script, they are all equally responsible for memorizing lines and bringing in or making in props.
*The day-by-day teacher guide and Smart Notebook SmartBoard slides for this unit are also available on Teachers Pay Teachers. This student guide along with the teacher guide/Notebook file are all you need to reinforce these skills for two weeks. Our resources are so comprehensive that if you were absent, you could leave just the SmartBoard slides and the student guides with your substitute.
