For Grades 3-6 (adaptable to go higher or lower)
Begin with the activities that introduce the different types of text features and how they help the reader and finish by having the students use those text features to find information given within any informational text such as an online news story, classroom magazine or content area text book. Activities are adaptable to multiple grade/ability levels and can be done independently, in pairs or within groups. Activities include text feature cards with corresponding card describing how each feature helps the reader, a text feature scavenger hunt (can be used with any text) and a sorting activity to help students understand the purpose of text features. Additionally, I added in a graphic organizer students use to find Who, What, When, Where, Why and the How of any teacher given informational text. ANSWER KEYS provided where applicable.
