Use this mini-unit to guide students to look in-depth at text and integrate ideas. In this four-lesson unit, students will analyze several texts (one video and 5 articles) on the subject of healthy living.
Lesson 1: Students analyze texts based on elaboration techniques and use a chart to record their findings.
Lesson 2: Students read a new text and write a concise summary.
Lesson 3: Students answer questions using text evidence and use in-text citations.
Lesson 4: Students integrate the information into an essay on why both diet and exercise are necessary to be healthy.
Included in this unit are a unit overview, four lesson plants, links to all texts, and printable resources for Lessons 1 and 3. You can use this unit on your own, or collaborate with your Health/PE teacher for a cross-curricular connection.
