Read. Think. Write. Share. Informational Text Book Circles and discussion groups. Set up jobs for your book circles and increase understanding of informational text. Improve speaking and listening skills! These job descriptions and graphic organizers are designed to use in Informational Book Circles; similar to those of Literature Circles- however, tailored to use with an informational text. These graphic organizers are appropriate for grades 3-8; as the level of the informational text would indicate the reading level. There are 7 jobs for the book circle.

They are:

  • Connector
  • Summarizer
  • Illustrator
  • Discussion Director
  • Word Finder
  • Interesting Facts Finder
  • Text Feature Presenter

Included is one page of Teacher Notes to get you started and also 2 pages that describe each job for the students. Informational Book Circles include 'close reading', an opportunity for writing a response to what has been read, and finally a chance to discuss the book within a group. You will be able to use these pages over and over as you choose the text for the students. There are 16 total pages included in this teaching resource for book circles. Also included are task cards that describe the 'book circle jobs'; you may want to keep these handy while getting ready for book circle discussion groups. Thank you for previewing this teaching resource.
