Description

Inspiration…
Do your students ever feel overwhelmed by all of the writing they must do in response to texts we share with them? Do you ever want to give your students a break from the written responses and simply listen to what incredible insights they have to share about given texts? I do too! While it is essential for us to give our students plenty of opportunity to write written responses, it is also crucial that we allow them the opportunity to discuss and speak about text without a written component. And so I created these Chit Chat Cards. The purpose of this informational text and speaking resource is to allow students to have the chance to share about what they are reading with peers, during reading conferences, or in whole class discussions, while providing them with a focal point to begin their thinking in order to generate even more thoughtful discussion. Simply read an informational text, pass out Chit Chat Cards, and have students share their thoughts based on the Chit Chat Card.

Directions & Possible Uses:
• Print and laminate Chit Chat Cards. You will need a few sets for whole class work.
• Have students read any nonfiction selection.
• Pass out the Chit Chat Cards.
• Partner students and allow them time to read through and discuss the Chit Chat cards.
• Have them discuss as few or as many as time allows.
• Bring group back together for a whole class discussion.
• Allow students to listen, share, and discuss their thoughts.

This Informational Text Chit Chat Card resource includes:
