In this informational text lesson students will be studying the overarching understanding that governments are based on ideas about political institutions and experiences related to power and authority. By the end of the lesson students will be able to explain the actions and reactions of various nations and their leaders to current events. The learning targets addressed in this extended lesson are:
Students will be able to explain the actions and reactions of Mali’s government and its leaders to the Ebola outbreak in 2014.
Students will apply literacy strategies such as previewing, questioning, and analyzing texts/ current events.
By the end of the lesson students should have an understanding of how international organizations can influence government and provide assistance. Students should also understand that countries learn from one another in their responses to common/ similar current events.
