Product Description
This is a 13 page document about the Lewis and Clark Expedition as led by Sacajawea. Two pages are teacher's notes. The informational text is seven page article in which I have embedded reading strategies within. Reading strategies include: Text to Text, Text to Self, Text to World, summarizing, and visualizing. There are ten inferential questions to follow up with a "suggested" answer key. There are also vocabulary and illustrations to enhance the text. I use the essential questions as a pre-reading activity. Then, I usually have the students complete the article in a think-pair-share activity. I give the quiz on the next class day and collect the articles then. I use this lesson in my seventh grade ELA classroom but it could easily be implemented in social studies as well, as the content is based on American history. I hope you find it useful.
