Needing a way to dig deeper into informational texts? Wishing that students could better understand all the parts of an informational text? Look no further!
From my own brainstorming, I created a simple, yet profound strategy that helps with comprehension and engagement with informational texts. I have seen a vast improvement in my students' critical thinking and ability to answer text-based questions by using this strategy.
It is best used in a group setting, where students can decide as a group what to fill in on the chart, such as whole group or small group instruction. It is also best paired with articles from Newsela or any other online news source that tailors to reading level and has corresponding questions. If you would like to use your own article and make your own questions, this strategy only helps to guide students to deeper understanding.
I wholeheartedly hope you enjoy this strategy!
