This is project assesses students' ability to dissect informational text--structure, author's purpose, author's point of view, and text analysis. Through close reading, using graphic organizers, and highlighting, students draw their own conclusions and integrate information from three different texts about healthy food choices.
After thoroughly analyzing the texts, students work in groups to design a diet plan for preteens. They have a variety of options based on Multiple Intelligences to present the information, and finish by individually writing an essay explaining the plan.
Included here are the project overview, links to the three articles, student instructions, a checklist/grade sheet, rubric for the presentation, and graphic organizer.
