Are you searching for a step-by-step PowerPoint that can be used to introduce nonfiction text structures to your students in a way that will grab their attention? You've come to the right place! This 34-slide PowerPoint begins by introducing the 5 categories of informational text structures to students. Each text structure features a graphic organizer. Plus, students find it engaging because all of the example paragraphs are related to soccer! After reading each soccer passage, students are shown how a graphic organizer can be used to help them identify which text structure was utilized.

This PowerPoint focuses on the following five text structures:

→ Sequence

→ Compare and Contrast

→ Cause and Effect

→ Problem and Solution

→ Description

PowerPoints filled with visuals are ideal for teaching new content to students because PowerPoints tend to be highly engaging and concepts can be easily broken down into understandable chunks of information. But let's face it... they are so time-consuming to create! Fortunately, now you have an option of using one that is already complete, kid-tested, and ready to go for you!

Slides 1-7: Introduction to Text Structures

Slides 8-11: Description

Slides 12-14: Sequence

Slides 15-17: Compare and Contrast

Slides 18-21: Cause and Effect

Slides 22-24: Problem and Solution

Slides 25-34: Five Practice Passages (All five passages are related to bubble gum. Students read the passage and identify the text structure.)

***A PowerPoint companion handout is also included in this file. Students can follow along and record answers on this handout as you progress through the PowerPoint! The companion handout is available in both printable format or digital format.**
