We begin each nine weeks with this type of chart. We preview the upcoming standards to set student expectations learning. We unpack the standard and students make a list of skills they are expected to master during the nine weeks. The second part of this activity is great for self-assessment of the skills listed earlier in the discussion. Once students assess themselves they are prompted to make strength and weakness statements in order to set goals. When the unit is completed, the students are able to analyze their own test results and see if they have progressed. I am able to use this documentation on my students for our teacher evaluation system as well.
