Three related science articles about flowers. Questions and answers included. Use as a standalone activity, or integrate into your units on plants, trees, gardens, seasons, or food and nutrition!
1. What do flowers do?
2. The life of a flower (with illustrations)
3. The flowers we eat
Each article is written for older elementary kids (grades 3-5). The first and third articles have alternate text written for a middle school reading level (grades 6-8), but covering essentially the same information. Great for in-class differentiation! The second article shows the sequence of steps in the development of a flower, and it has illustrations to complement the text.
Paragraphs are numbered so you can use the articles easily for additional reading comprehension work: topic sentences, author’s purpose, using evidence from the text, close reading, comparing articles, and so on. Suitable for Common Core informational text requirements.
