2. Tree rings (with figures, captions, and sidebar)

Each article is written for older elementary kids (grades 3-5). They also have alternate text written for a middle school reading level (grades 6-8), but covering essentially the same information. Great for in-class differentiation! The second article has figures, captions, and a sidebar to complement the text.
Paragraphs are numbered so you can use the articles easily for additional reading comprehension work: topic sentences, author’s purpose, using evidence from the text, close reading, comparing articles, and so on. Suitable for Common Core informational text requirements.
