Children need good mentors to help them write well. Here are 12 informational writing mentor texts to help your students become better writers! There are 3 sets (4 on koalas, 4 on sheep, and 4 on lions). Each set has 4 levels of writing (1, 2, 3, and 4). These models show children in an explicit manner what constitutes an effective informational writing piece. Also included is a blank sheet of writing paper so your students can practice independently. These writing samples make outstanding anchor charts in the classroom! They are a great springboard for a discussion about the qualities of good writing. Hang them on the bulletin board to serve as a visual rubric. Please note: They are intended to look like “kid” writing.
