Information reading passages on the most common family pets (Hamsters, Dogs, Turtles, Chicks, Cats, Rabbits, Mice and Rats, Fish, Gerbils, Snakes). Each passage has a heading, vocabulary box, caption, illustration and subheadings for an informational text lesson.
Integrate math about pets. It includes a page for tallying "Which pets do you love best?". Following that page is a bar graph "Favorite Pet Graph" for shading the results from the tally. The last page in this section provides a chance to write observations about the collected data "Observations about Data"
Students will choose two of the presented pets from the reading passages. They will reread or use the evidence from each passage to determine the similarities and differences.
Offer writing opportunities! Your students can use the reading and math information they have read and collected to write a persuasive or informative essay about the pet of their choice."Why I Love____" and "Why I Want ____".
