This is a literacy lesson for informational and persuasive reading. Students will use strategies to read factual texts and answer a hierarchy of questions. Students will make a "fun facts" booklet about pencils and create a fancy cover for it. Once the reading is completed, students will read a persuasive essay about what is better, a pencil or pen? Then each will write his own opinion. Finishing the lesson, kids will be creating a word search with the vocabulary words. This entire lesson can be done in one day or broken apart for guided reading groups and centers.
