This resource has examples, references, and a model essay to teach students how to write informational paragraphs and essays. Students will learn to differentiate informational writing from other genres.
Share the color-coded paragraph example about landforms to model a topic sentence, supporting details, and a concluding sentence to get started. Then move on to an example outline and essay about the American black bear to model and share with your students.
Next students move on to writing a complete expository essay using a checklist to be sure they have included all the necessary elements for informational text. Once completed, you can use the Informational/Expository Assessment Rubric to check their work and guide them on their strengths and weaknesses to differentiate instruction.
My students are stronger writers and enjoy writing using the resources provided in this package.
