Excellent template created by The House of Roush for helping students draft an Informative Explanatory essay (formerly known as Response to Literature) focusing on THEME in a literary work. However, the word THEME can easily be whited out and replaces with a different focus that you want students to write about (ie Character, Dialogue, Conflict, etc.)
Presents information a structured format, providing prompts for students to fill in the blanks with their own information. Does not spoon feed students-- still forces them to think critically about what they are writing. Allows students to easily see the gaps in their essay. Meets Common Core Standards for writing.
Can be used as homework, guided instruction in class, or a paired activity where students assist each other with filling in the appropriate information for their essay. Easy to use as a peer-eding activity if students switch their drafts.
