This is an introduction to Informative writing. It focuses specifically on the planning process for this genre of writing. It can be broken up into 4 different lessons, or combined in any other combination to fit your class instruction time.
The document gives lessons using the A.R.B.C. acronym for beginning your Informative writing task. It includes:
-Attack the prompt: students learn to break the writing prompt apart and understand exactly what the prompt is asking them to do.
-Read for it: students will learn how to read and annotate the text to find the information needed from the prompt's task
-Brainstorm a thesis: students will learn how to construct a thesis statement to build their essay around.
-Create a plan: this covers how to create an outline or plan for their writing. It goes over a few different formats and gives examples of each
Each section gives a learning target, objective and essential question; explanation of the lesson; example of a completed task; practice for students to complete; and review/Exit Ticket.
You will need your own writing prompt and text to use in conjunction with this (I have several different writing prompt resources for sale in my store also!). Most of the PowerPoint is editable to adjust it to your classroom's needs.
You can also purchase my Informative Writing bundle that includes all 4 PowerPoints (Planning, Introduction, Body Paragraphs, Conclusion) I created for this genre of writing and save $!
