This resource is intended for use as student practice the steps involved with determining Key Ideas and Details (CCSS Reading Anchor Standards 1-3) using the included texts. Strategically assigning these to students so that they focus on practicing the skill they are currently developing will help students develop and internalize that skill.
Aspects of Anchor Standards Covered: Given the less complex structure of the texts for in our Level 1 and Level two “Level-Ups” collections, these student practice guides cover the following aspects of Anchor Standards 1-3:
• Close Reading and Text Based Inference;
• Citing Textual Evidence;
• Determining Main Ideas;
• Determining Central Ideas
Levels 1 and 2 of our “Level-Ups” do not include practice on Analyzing how events, individuals, and ideas develop over the course of a text. Practice on this skill is included in Level 3 and higher of our “Level-Ups” collections, since the complexity and length of the articles included in those better lend themselves to that work.
