I created these game pieces for a lesson assessment for a 1st grader who struggled with her consonant blends. I added common initial blends onto each fly and printed, laminated, and cut them out for use in a fly swatter game.
I used this game multiple times and in multiple different ways to get a full understanding of my student's understanding of our lesson. For those who are just starting out, I recommend using images of words that share the initial blend as that of one of the flies. For example, I had a picture of a flower for the FL blend. Once I was sure that she could read the blends on the flies, I traded in the images for verbally announcing the blend I wished for her to identify.
You may notice that some of the blends on the flies consist of two capital letters. This was done to fit the needs of my ESL student who had a hard time distinguishing between the lower case L and the lower case I. That being said, I uploaded this file in a PowerPoint format to allow the buyers the opportunity to add or change any blends they wish to incorporate into their game. If you would like to add more flies, simply duplicate a slide with the flies on it and go in and edit the blends!
